Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday ridiculed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s efforts to promote The Accidental Prime Minister’, based on Manmohan Singh’s tenure as India’s prime minister from 2004 to 2014, just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections as a political stunt.
He said that their attempts to promote the Vijay Gutte film are aimed at demeaning the Congress, which registered a victory in three Hindi Heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Amarinder Singh also described the BJP’s attempt to use the movie, which seeks to project Manmohan Singh as a weak and docile prime minister, as not only childish but brazenly politically motivated.
Promotion of #TheAccidentalPrimeMinisterTrailer by @BJP4India & its leaders on social media a political stunt aimed at demeaning @INCIndia ahead of LS elections, It shows their desperation & frustration in face of imminent defeat.

The Punjab chief minister said that the use of the movie’s recently released trailer by the BJP, which was tweeted from the party’s official twitter handle and promoted by many of its leaders on the social media, to criticize Manmohan Singh clearly showed their desperation and frustration in the face of their imminent defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Lambasting the BJP for resorting to cheap politics to strengthen their electoral chances ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Amarinder Singh advised them to accept the harsh reality that they had lost the support of the people.
Singh added that even the worst critics of Manmohan Singh could not find fault with him and using the movie is the BJP’s futile attempt to undermine the Congress.
I personally know Dr. Manmohan Singh ji to be an intelligent & independent leader. In any case, @INCIndia leadership and Smt. Sonia Gandhi ji have never believed in interfering with functioning of their leaders. #TheAccidentalPrimeMinisterTrailer projects a complete lie, he tweeted.
