The Hindi film industry has entertained us with innumerable films of various genres but Bollywood also produces some films that initiate some kind of social debate and major controversies. The censor board film certification (CBFC) has a power to restrict the movies which they think might hurt the sentiments of people. Many innovative and creative movies are prohibited due to this sensitivity concerning public welfare. India already has huge population with diversity in terms of various religions, languages and cultures since the immemorial times which makes it more sensitive to various thought provoking topics.

Nowadays controversies happen on daily basis and despite that mostly the orthodox, spiritual and superstitious mentality of people in India prevents many artistic, inspirational or biographical movie makers to take a bold step and showcase their perspective within democratic creative space. This fact leaves them with a problem of possible abandonment of the film even before its release.

There are many movies which are actually banned by Central board of film certification (CBFC) like Padmavati, Bandit queen, Liptick under my Burkha, Game of Ayodhya and Udta Panjab. They often take this action without watching the film and understanding the scandal’s connection to the plot. Well this spells disaster for the film makers leading to audience failing to watch the film in the first place, which results in disappointment to the film as a business.
