The movie, co-directed by Ranaut herself and Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi, is about the warrior queen of Jhansi who defied the East India Company rule during the Rebellion of 1857 and fought until her last breath.
The film earned Rs 8.75 crore on day one. As per reports, the film has emerged the fifth highest opener where the film is driven by a female star of the film.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is a biographical account of how Rani Laxmibai waged a war against the East India Company. It chronicles her journey from the place where she grew up, Bithoor to becoming the Rani of Jhansi, and eventually turning into a warrior Queen.
