The release date of Sonchiriya has been pushed by three weeks and the dacoit drama will now hit screens on 1 March. With the new release date, the film will now clash with Lukka Chuppi, a romantic comedy featuring Kriti Sanon and Kartik Aaryan, at the box office.

Sonchiriya, boasting of an ensemble cast that includes Sushant Singh Rajput, Manoj Bajpayee, Bhumi Pednekar, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana, revolves around dacoits of the Chambal valley. The film is set in 1975 when the Emergency was declared across the country.
Sushant, Manoj and Ranvir play the baaghis or rebels terrorising the region. Rajput is Lakhna, a member of Shorey’s character Vakil’s gang. Bhumi also joins the pack who traverse the dry, mountainous ravines or beehads of Chambal. Ashutosh plays a policeman, tasked with the responsibility to cleanse the area of all the bandits, and who vows to kill them all.
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, who has been at the helm of films like Udta Punjab, Dedh Ishqiya and Ishqiya, and presented by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies, the film was initially set for a release on 8 February.
