The last leg of the shooting of Thugs of Hindostan, starring Aamir Khan, took place in the magnificent historic Mehrangarh fort in Jodhpur. The fort is considered to be one of the largest forts of India. “The landscape of a film like this needs things which are slightly larger-than life. I got the flavour of Hindustan in Mehrangarh,” said director Vijay Krishna Acharya in the making video.

Speaking about the same, actor Amitabh Bachchan said, “When you visit the fort, you just wonder how did they ever think of building something like this. And it is such a joy to be able to have the permission to work inside its premises.”

The fort had the old-world charm and quality to it especially at night because of the way it was lit. Sumit Basu, production designer said, “The real challenge was to tell about the present day from the ruins. No damage was caused to even a single stone.”

Speaking about the challenges, Manush Nandan, DOP, said, “The biggest challenge was that we couldn’t take any big truck inside the fort. The fort is so huge but all the doorways are very small. Turns out, in those days, they wanted to protect elephants from coming inside during wars, that’s why such small entrances.”Besides, no disruption was caused to the tourism that takes place in the fort, informed Bachchan. He said, “We never had problems, neither with tourists nor with the management.”

In addition to it, the director also shared a fun fact. He said, “We wanted firangs (foreigners). We asked some of the foreign tourists, who used to come to Rajasthan to visit the fort, to be part of few scenes. They also enjoyed being part of the film.”

Thugs of Hindostan releases on November 8.
